Story

V blízkosti severného nárožia Pavilónu Českej republiky a Slovenskej republiky rastie stará statná gledíčia. Jedna z jej najväčších vetiev sa večer 8. júla 2019 zlomila a poškodila strechu Pavilónu, ktorý sa tak stal prakticky nepoužiteľným. V ten deň sa v Benátkach strhla prudká veterná smršť s rýchlosťou vetra až 90 km/h, ktorá vyvrátila stromy v celej oblasti. Odvtedy Pavilón, postavený v roku 1926, čakal na rekonštrukciu – až do roku 2024, keď ho dočasne zastrešili. Benátky so svojou lagúnou patria k oblastiam, ktoré sú najviac postihnuté klimatickými zmenami, znečistením, eróziou a poklesom pôdy. V správe UNESCO z roku 2023 sa uvádza, že zvyšovanie hladiny morí a extrémne počasie, spôsobené zmenou klímy spolu s masovým turizmom a výstavbou, ohrozujú staré budovy, stromy a prostredie Benátok. V správe sa odporúča zaradiť Benátky medzi chránené územia.
